Doreen Wittenbols (augustus 2008)

After an extensive period of using her own image in provocative and performative [psycho] sexual tableaux, Wittenbols began to employ friends and colleagues as models in her work, while continuing to explore themes of vulnerability, awkwardness, and intimacy. The majority of her practice consists of large-scale, figurative oil paintings, which are motivated my society’s ambivalent attitudes towards sex and the contradictions of our sex crazed culture. She constructs her paintings from a collage of personal photographs, found media and symbolic props.
